My article on Climate Change

Filed under: World — happyscribblers @ 6:51 pm

Ever heard or seen any cyclones, tornadoes, flooding, mudslides, ice caps melting, irregular weather patterns, whales dying and the disappearance of penguins before in your whole entire life? Well, I have and I am sure that most of you have too.  These are the things that we can see or hear whenever videos of climate change are shown to us.

But how many people in this world are bothered about this? How many people can the activists affect and make them realize about what’s happening to the planet Earth? To start of with, I have surveyed 10 Singaporeans and asked them just one question. This is the result that I get – 8 out of 10 Singaporeans are aware of the climate change that is happening but only 6 out of that 8 people are doing something to save the Earth.

So what does this tell us? Yes, from the result that I have gotten, I can tell that the message has got through to a lot of people but to make  them adopt a lifestyle that is friendly to Earth will not be as easy as counting 1,2.3. Time and energy will be needed to succeed for this kind of lifestyle in a country.

The United Nations Framework Convention has defined climate change as “a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods”.

According to United Nations Headquarters, 11 out of the last 12 years are ranked the warmest years since 1850. Carbon dioxide is the main contributor to the climate change. The sea level is rising, there are lesser snow covers, the glaciers are melting, the artic is warming and more intense and longer draughts have been observed since the 1970s.

Personally, knowing about climate change and how serious it can be, my family’s lifestyle has changed quite a bit. Well, it’s better than doing nothing at all right?

In the time where there are no advertisements telling us to switch off our electricity, use the recycle bins and Al Gore has never made a speech about climate change on concerts, I have wasted away my electricity and lights usage and threw my unwanted papers and bottles in the rubbish bin. But after watching Al gore making a speech, watching videos of the drastic changes that happened on Earth and mother nature and researching more about climate change, I have learned to switch off all the electricity when not in used and have all the unwanted papers and bottles collected and thrown in the recycle bin.

This realization has only affected me in my family and as for my parents; they are switching off the electricity because of the increment in bills. They are doing this not for the Earth but instead for financial reasons. They have not realized that they are actually helping to save the earth. By this, I realized that the only effective way to get help from elders to save the earth is to tell them that they can save a lot on their bills.

And as for my 5 year old sister, I have taught her to throw the papers and bottles in the recycle bin located right outside our home. It is not really a necessity to explain to her about the climate change because she will never be able to understand it. But as she grows up, it will be my responsibility and her school’s responsibility to educate her about climate change. This goes to every child in the world.

Now, let’s compare our modern century to 1000 years ago. 1000 years ago, battles were fought using swords and archeries. MAN travels by foot, horses, camels and elephants. There are no factories to emit any carbon dioxide. There is no electricity but instead the stars and lamps to light their way through the night.

Now, battles or war as they call it, were fought using tanks, guns and bombs. MAN travels by vehicles and airplanes. There are thousands of factories that emit carbon dioxide. Thousands of lights are turned on through the night.

My point here is that, if the people from 1000 years ago can survive without electricity and all the other things that our generation have right now, why can’t we?

But, us human being are the ones who created technology and thus making the Earth sick. Therefore, we are the ones who should be responsible for being kind and caring to the Earth and Mother Nature.

Prom Nite

Filed under: Movie Reviews — happyscribblers @ 4:35 am

Hey there,  I managed to catch a movie last minute and it was “Prom Nite”

Here’s are the summary: (adapted from internet)

Donna senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty and love.Surrounded by her best friends, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible ,the man she thought was gone forever. Now,Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer and survive their prom night.

All in all,the story is understandable,a little scary (killing & murderer-himself).I’ll give 4.5/5 instead.

Olympics Spirit.

Filed under: Happenings — happyscribblers @ 1:59 pm

Hello bloggers,

I’m sure everybody is overwhelmed with Olympics vibe. In TV channels, radio, newspaper and almost everywhere.

Yea, so have you all heard the new song from Taylor Swift?

I heard it. It was awesome. It was dedicated for the USA atheletes.

I’m not much of Taylor Swift fan but i’m find this song very encouraging. A song that is great to listen when you had went through hell (opps), a bad day in other words.

So check the lyrics out below.

And it’s a sad picture
The final blow hits you
Somebody else gets
What you wanted again
You know it’s all the same
Another time and place
Repeating history
And you’re getting sick of it

But I believe in whatever you do
And I’ll do anything to see it through
Because these things will change

Can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up
To hold us back
Will fall down
It’s a revolution
The time will come for us to finally win
We’ll sing hallelujah
We’ll sing hallelujah.

So we’ve been outnumbered
Raided and now cornered
It’s hard to fight
When the fight ain’t fair

We’re getting stronger now
From things they never found
They might be bigger
But we’re faster and never scared

You can walk away
Say we don’t need this
But there’s something in your eyes
Says we can beat this
‘Cause these things will change

Can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up
To hold us back
Will fall down
It’s a revolution
The time will come for us to finally win
We’ll sing hallelujah
We’ll sing hallelujah, oh

Tonight we’ll stand and get off our knees
Fight for what we’ve worked for
All these years
The battle was long
It was the fight of our lives
But we’ll stand up, champions tonight
It was the night things changed

Can you see it now?
The walls that they put up
To hold us back
Fell down
It’s a revolution
Throw your hands up
‘Cause we never gave in
We’ll sing hallelujah
We sang hallelujah
Hallelujah.

Michael Phelps

Filed under: Happenings, sports — happyscribblers @ 3:55 pm

Singapore won Silver for Table Tennis.

Yes, im talking about the Olympics.  The only sport that im really interested to watch  when the Olympics season’s on is Swimming.  This year’s olympic has produced a man who has won a total of 8 Gold Medals in a single Olypmpic. That man is Michael Phelps. And he has got almost everyone talking about him, even me and my small sister, Rifa, who is just 6 years old. Below is a recent conversation that i had with my sister while watching Michael received his eighth Gold medal.

Me: Rifa!…That is kakak’s (sister’s) boyfriend!

Rifa: Whch one?

Me: This one —-> . His name is Michael Phelps.

Rifa: How do you know? Is he in your school too?

Me: (Looks at her with a BIG smile and answered) YES! We are classmates…..

LOL… I didnt know my sister was that easy!!! And yeah, now you know how “perasan(what is the english word for this)” i can be. Oh, Congrats to Michael Phelps for winning 8 GOLD medals in a game. A..M.A.Z.I.N.G!
Hmm…do you think he will read this? Hmm..I don’t think so.

High School Musical on Ice

Filed under: Happenings — happyscribblers @ 2:34 pm

There are no Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Corbin Bleu and Ashley Tisdale but only professional skaters.Despite this, High School Musical on ice still rocks! Its fun and cooooool! It happened at Singapore Expo and the crowd did not just consist of kids but also teens and adults(like me). The acts were just as almost the same as the movies(part 1 & 2), but the only difference was that it was on ice. All the skaters did an awesome job but only one or 2 of them fell. It wasn’t that bad but hey accidents do happen right.

Oh well, i’ll give it 4.5/5 if the crowd was fun too but i think i’ll settle with 4/5.

Laughter is the best medicine

Filed under: Funny — happyscribblers @ 6:13 pm

I received a funny email the other day and i shall share it with everyone.

 ’Hello?’

’Hi honey. This is Daddy. Is Mommy near the phone?’

’No Daddy.  She’s upstairs in the bedroom with Uncle Paul.’
After a brief pause,  Daddy says, ‘But honey, you haven’t got an Uncle
  Paul.’

’Oh yes I do, and he’s upstairs in the room with Mommy, right now.’
Brief Pause. ‘Uh, okay then, this is what I want you to do.. Put the
phone down on the table, run upstairs and knock on the bedroom door and
shout to Mommy that Daddy’s car just pulled into the driveway.’

  ’Okay Daddy, just a minute.’

A few minutes  later the little girl comes back to the phone. ‘I did it
  Daddy.’

  ’And what happened honey?’

’Well, Mommy got  all scared, jumped out of bed with no clothes on and
ran around  screaming. Then she tripped over the rug, hit her head on the
dresser  and now she isn’t moving at all!’
  ’Oh my God!!!
  What about  your Uncle Paul?’
’He jumped out of the bed with no clothes on, too. He  was all scared and
he jumped out of the back window and into the  swimming pool. But I guess
he didn’t know that you took out the water  last week to clean it. He hit
the bottom of the pool and I think he’s  dead.’

  ***Long Pause***

  ***Longer Pause***

  ***Even Longer Pause***

  Then Daddy says,  ’Swimming pool?

  Is this 486-5731?’

  No, this  is 486-5713…..

  Sorry, wrong number!!!!!!!!
